Course Outline
This course develops a love of healthy eating, cooking and baking.
Young people will complete three mandatory unit:
- Food, Health and Wellbeing: Food Preparation
- Food, Health and Wellbeing: Food for Health
- Food, Health and Wellbeing: Independent Living Skills
Examples of practical activities may include shopping, using a washing machine, using a dishwasher, general cleaning, setting a table, or organising the storage of foods in a fridge.
Young people may be presented at National 2 level.
Skills Developed through this Course
The following skills are developed:
- Prepare healthy, basic dishes.
- Make informed food and lifestyle choices.
- Develop safe and hygienic practices in the storage, preparation and cooking of food.
- Develop practical skills to support aspects of independent living in the home or in a supported Eevironment.
- Use a range of cookery skills, food preparation techniques and cookery processes when following recipes
- Select and use ingredients to produce snacks and dishes
- Work safely and hygienically
Progression Pathways
The course or its units may provide progression to:
- Other qualifications in Hospitality or related areas.
- Further study, employment or training.
