Accommodation

This course is taught in a classroom and in a variety of experiential situations out in the community.

Resources Young People will use

Young people will access cooking and life skills resources within Cardinal Winning school. They will also access various venues within the community such as, museums, leisure centres, theatres, shops, parks.

Links with other partners/agencies

During this course young people will visit and/or have visits from service providers, for example, Enable, Michael Tracey Project. This will allow them to explore different options for life beyond school.

Course Outline

This award is based upon an on-going focus on identifying and building trusted adult relationships and safe places. Young people will learn about and practise exploring social boundaries and relationship building. With this foundation, young people will participate in activities to begin to prepare them for adult life beyond school.

This includes:

  • Learning in a different environment
  • Leisure time activities
  • Making a safe journey
  • Going shopping
  • Making a healthy snack

The Award is presented as SCQF level 1, and learners can achieve a Bronze, Silver or Gold award depending on the number of units covered.

Skills Developed through this Course

Young People will have the opportunity to develop and practice a range of skills required to develop life skills or gain experience of a variety of opportunities available to them once they have finished school. For example:

  • Independent travel
  • Making a shopping list and purchasing items in a shop
  • Using money and effective communication in shops
  • Food preparation and basic food hygiene
  • Accessing service providers and expressing choices
  • How to keep safe and how to be in a healthy relationship

Progression Pathways

The Adult Learning and Transition Award can lead to a Personal Achievement Award (level 2) or Personal Development Award (level2).

This is an excellent foundation for moving onto Supported College Provision after school.
