At the beginning of senior phase in Mathematics pupils will start working their way through the National awards. Where they start depends on a combination of S3-4 transition information as well as teacher diagnostic testing. The Nationals that are undertaken are

· National 1 Number skills units (Ten stand-alone units -covering number, number processes, shape, measurement, time, money and data analysis)

· National 2 Lifeskills Mathematics course (With four units to be completed- Number processes, shape and two from either Money, Time or Measurement)

· National 3 Application of Mathematics course (Three units to complete- ‘Shape, space and measure’, ‘Managing money and data’ and ‘Numeracy’)

· National 4 Application of Mathematics course (Four units to complete- ‘Managing finance and statistics’, ‘Geometry and measure’, ‘Numeracy’ and the ‘Added value unit’)

· National 5 Application of Mathematics course (Three units to complete- ‘Managing finance and statistics’, ‘Geometry and measure’ and ‘Numeracy’). Consideration would be made throughout to see if the National 5 external exam could be achievable

Throughout the courses the pupils are encouraged to do well whilst being aware of their rate of progression. The use of digital technology and videos permits pupil self-learning and support is offered in line with SQA guidance.
