St Denis' Primary - Employability Carousel Session

Pupils enjoyed their visit at Cardinal Winning Secondary recently and had the chance to take part in our Employability Carousel Sessions.  This allowed the pupils to have a go at Car Valeting, Hairdressing, Digital Media, hospitality and construction.  The kids had a fantastic time and each received a group photo to remember their day.

Mr Devanney R.I.P

With great sadness and a heavy heart we announce the departure of our friend and colleague Jim Devanney who passed away on Holy Saturday.  Jim has been a valuable member of Cardianl Winning Staff since in opened 5 years ago.  Jim leaves behind his wife Sadie, son and 3 daughters.  He was universally respected by all in our school and he loved Cardinal Winning Secondary as much as we loved him.

May he rest in peace.

Unfortunately it has not been possible to arrange requiem services for Jim prior to the end of term. The arrangements are as follows:

Sunday Evening - short service at St Josephs - 6.30pm when Jim's remains will be brought to the church.

Monday Morning 9.30AM Requiem Mass in St Joseph's.

Thereafter the services will proceed to Daldowie Crematorium for 11.00AM (Approx.)

Your attendance at these services will be very much appreciated by Jim's family. A Mass Card and flowers will be sent on behalf of staff, pupils and parents of our school.

Money Week Judged a Huge Success

The recent money week in Cardinal Winning helped pupils, parents and members of our local community become more financially capable.  Visitors learned from workshops on understanding Money in a Digital Age, Understanding Risks and Rewards, Credit Union and Pay Day Loans.  Pupils were able to share their knowledge about price comparison, research, mobile phone costs, online gambling, costs of home ownership and costs associated with the school day.  Brenda Rockhead, Education Scotland Finance Advisor described the event as a 'huge success, loved it and even I learned a lot.'

The event was very well attended and included in the congregation was the Lord Provost Sadie Docherty, Executive Director of Education Maureen McKenna and Head of the Scottish Catholic Education Service Michael McGrath. During the celebration Archbishop Tartaglia welcomed everyone and told them that the church is ‘here for you’. It was a truly inspirational celebration, full of prayerful participation by many of our pupils.

Partnership Agreement

Mr McDonald, headteacher was delighted to sign a partnership agreement with a local construction company which will allow greater support for senior pupils in Cardinal Winning in vocational training.  The agreement signed by Lyn Stoddart of CCG paves the way for more industrial visits, work experience placements and more customers for our hospitality and catering services provided in our school.
