Update 25/2/21
Update 25/2/21

For the attention of all parents/carers of young people in S4 – S6

  1. Senior Phase National Qualification Practical Lessons – rota for in-school provision

By now you will likely have been in discussion with your son/daughter’s Year Head (Mr Watt – S4/Mrs Farrah – S5/6) regarding part-time in-school practical lessons for your young person starting Wednesday 24th February.

  • This is not for every pupil in S4 – S6, but only for those who have chosen options with practical learning that cannot be successfully supported by remote learning
  • This will likely be one or two blocks during the week of 2 hours and 15 minutes each
  • We have emailed all our parent/carer partners who have young people receiving this support with your son/daughter’s timetable while this provision is in place

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to phone the school and discuss with your son/daughter’s year head.

  1. Covid-19 Home Testing entitlement

If you have a young person attending school for the above provision or the keyworker provision at present, your young person is entitled to take home a Covid-19 Testing Kit.

  • This kit includes three tests.
  • If your young person is attending school every day, the tests should be carried out at home on a Sunday and Wednesday.
  • If your young person is attending school on certain days, carry out a test the night before.
  • Your son/daughter will take home the box of tests with a consent form to be completed by you as parent/carer. This form must be completed, signed and returned to the school.
  • Instructions for carrying out the test can be found in the box. Here is a youtube link which will also help with the process
  • If your young person tests positive, please follow NHS guidance: do not send your young person to school.

UPDATE FROM MAUREEN MCKENNA

Home Learning Update
Home Learning Update

Home Learning in January

Dear parents/carers

  • We begin our home learning provision for your young people on Monday 11th January.
  • We will be relying on Glow email accounts - all our young people have one - to provide home learning activities, tasks and resources.
  • The best way to support your learner to access online learning resources is using their school-issued iPad to log into Glow. Any iPads that have not been taken home by pupils will be delivered to homes by staff in the coming days.
  • We will tweet a short video to help you support your learner to access his/her Glow account on the iPad. https://twitter.com/cardinalwinnin1
  • If your young person has forgotten their Glow username and/or password, just email dmarks@cardinalwinning-sec.glasgow.sch.uk and we will email you the details you need to get into Glow.
  • If you would like a copy of your young person’s timetable to help structure home learning during this period, just email headteacher@cardinalwinning-sec.glasgow.sch.uk and a copy will be sent to you.

We want to support you to keep our learners learning during this difficult start to  the year. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us here at the school.

Stay safe and God bless,

P Johnstone

Dear Parents and Carers

Updated guidance for schools

On Friday 30th October, the Scottish Government updated its guidance for schools. We have  placed the link on the Glasgow web-site within the Schools and Learning Section. It can be found  here: https://glasgow.gov.uk/article/25947/Recovery-Resilience-and-Reconnection-2020

You can also find it here:

https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-reducing-the-risks-in-schools/

There is also the latest advice on children and transmission – it is available here: https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-children-and-transmission/

As you will already know, Glasgow has been placed at level 3 in the new five level approach from  the government.

It remains the case that very good handwashing regimes, maintaining physical distancing (2 m,  wherever possible) and good hygiene when coughing and sneezing are the best ways to reduce  the risk of the virus spreading. Our schools and nurseries will continue to promote these along  with other measures, such as maintaining class groupings, staggered breaks and lunchtimes,  keeping doors and windows open to improve airflow.

The main changes for level 3 are:

∙ All staff and pupils in S4 to S6 should wear face coverings in class as well as in other areas of  the school.

∙ Indoor PE is now permitted but the use of changing rooms should be avoided. ∙ All staff when working directly with children should wear a face covering and also when in  corridors and other areas of the school.

∙ All parents/visitors to the school site should wear face coverings including when dropping off  or picking up their children. You may wish to consider wearing a face covering if the drop off/pick up areas are busy outside the school.

I would ask you to work with us positively to ensure that we can continue to keep our schools open.  We all have a part to play.

2.

We know that some of this is very challenging but unless we all work together and keep ourselves  safe then our children and young people are going to have their learning disrupted.

The schools worked hard last week to celebrate Hallowe’en without the usual parties and it was  clear that the children had great fun - safely!

Please continue to keep safe at home - keeping to the rules of not mixing households, maintaining  at least 2 metres distance when chatting and mixing with friends and neighbours and regularly  washing your hands thoroughly using soap and water.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

MAUREEN McKENNA

Executive Director of Education

Update from Maureen McKenna [1]
Update from Maureen McKenna

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for working with us to help keep our school community safe. A reminder that if you or any of your household develops symptoms then all household members must self-isolate.

A test should be booked as soon as possible for anyone who has symptoms. If a test is required, you can arrange this via NHS inform: https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19/test-and-protect/coronavirus-covid-19-testing

As a reminder, symptoms include:

  • a high temperature or fever
  • a new continuous cough
  • a loss of, or change in sense of smell or taste

A test is not needed unless you have symptoms or the Test and Protect team ask you to get a test. If your child does have a negative test this will not change the date your child can return to school.

Parent/Carers [1]
Parent/Carers

Dear Parent/Carers

  • If your young person has a pair of personal headphones, could they remember to bring these in their schoolbag - this will remove the need for young people to share headphones in Technical, Music and ICT Class.

  • The school has sinks with soap and water in every classroom and 10 hand sanitising stations located at key points in the school.  There is no requirement for your child to bring his/her own bottle of hand-sanitiser. Over use can cause skin irritation.  Help us  to help our young people to maintain good hand hygiene while avoiding any skin injury or irritation.

  • During lockdown we issued a large number of English and Maths textbooks to support home learning.  We would be grateful if you have a text book at home that you pack in your child's schoolbag to return when they come to school this week.
