Music at Cardinal Winning Secondary School

Faculty Head:    Mrs A Sloan

Music Teacher:   Mrs K Bruce

Music is a fantastic vehicle for learning which can aid the development of a wide range of transferable skills.  The ‘Curriculum for Excellence: Expressive Arts Principles and Practice’ document states:

‘By engaging in experiences within the expressive arts, children and young people will recognise and represent feelings and emotions, both their own and those of others. The expressive arts play a central role in shaping our sense of our personal, social and cultural identity.’

Pupils of Cardinal Winning Secondary School receive weekly music lessons until S3, where they engage in a variety of musical activities which include performing, listening and creating.  Pupils are encouraged to explore music from a range of genres and from around the world, and take part in many activities which forge links between music and other subjects.

From S4 onwards, pupils may opt in to Music lessons where they pursue National Curriculum awards in Music, Performance Arts or Music Technology.

The Music Department in Cardinal Winning Secondary also runs a popular extra-curricular program.  Current weekly activities on offer are the Music Club (Tuesday lunch times) and the school Choir (Wednesday lunch times).
