Tribute to Nelson Mandela

Prayers were said and a fitting tribute was paid to South Africa’s late former president Nelson Mandela at Friday morning’s assembly by Mr Watt.

Mr Watt spoke in detail of the hardships that the leader faced, the injustice of the Apartheid system, the 27 years of imprisonment that Nelson Mandela faced and most importantly the greatness of the leader that did not seek to belittle those who had inflicted injustice upon him, even when he had the power to do so.

"As a politician and as a president, more important was the fact that he put the leaders of the parties who had imprisoned him in his cabinet. He left the structure of the government intact as long as people were willing to work with him to achieve the objectives of the country," Bill Clinton

Nelson Mandela, aged 95, died peacefully at his home in Johannesburg on Thursday 5th December 2013 at 2100 local time. His family was by his side.
